This hand-turned Fruit Cherry bowl is signed and dated on its foot. Since wood for this bowl was cut from a tree side, the true shape of a bowl after it is cut from a tree is showcased.
The bowl is 7-1/4 inches in diameter on its long side, 6-5/8 inches on its short side, and at its high end, the bowl is 3-3/4 inches tall.
This is a beautiful piece of wood from the side of a tree that even detailed photos can’t do justice as it's extremely striking with so many beautiful colors being displayed.
Because of the way the piece of wood was cut, to be turned, it ends up having the more typical oblong shape of a natural-edge bowl.
The item has been sanded to 1000 grit, then coated with a Shellac and Carnauba Wax based water-resistant finish. Finally, the item is the buffed using a three-step process. The first buffing is done using Tripoli to remove any fine scratches or tool marks, then White Diamond to start to bring out the shine, and lastly, buffed with pure Carnauba wax which not only protects the item, but also provides a deep gloss finish. This bowl is NOT a food safe item.
