George Ahgupuk : Four Print/Placemat Set

















Four placemats by Alaskan Eskimo (Inuit) artist George Ahgupuk. The set includes "Arctic Hunters," "Eskimo Blanket Toss," "The Quiet Visitors," and "Return to the Village." These were originally purchased in the early 1970s in Anchorage, Alaska during the Fur Rendevouz event. They measure 17" x 11.5", and the backs are a tan color.

Early 1940s Baleen Basket with Seal Finial























An early WWII-era 1940s baleen basket purchased at estate. The man this piece was purchased from said his father was stationed in Point Barrow, Alaska during the war. This is one of the mementos he came home with. The tightly woven basket is about 3.5-inches wide by 3-inches tall with a carved seal finial handle and base.

James Sugar Sr.: Seal Hunting Sculpture







Here is an Alaska native Yupik Eskimo carving done by James Sugar Sr. of the village of Emmonak, Alaska. The carving is on a wood base. It measures approximately 13.5 inches long. The wooden kayak or baidarka measures five inches long. There are two soapstone seals and three soapstone pieces which resemble ice. This diorama scene shows the hunter poised to harpoon a seal.
